Presenting: Reinvention of grand Victorian Villa for cool, urban living
13.12.2018
As experts in interior architecture and design, we love the diversity of working on projects of all shapes and sizes and we get particularly excited about those special projects that involve every aspect of what we do, from planning and project management through to installation and finishing touches. This huge project involved exactly that – and our head interior designer Kim Robb played a vital role in making it happen. The interior and exterior of this property were completely reinvented to provide a luxury, contemporary and truly unique living experience.
Townhouse Living
The owners of this stunning four-storey townhouse, situated in central Harrogate, North Yorkshire, were looking to transform its tired interior, maximise space and light, and bring a quirky, unique and contemporary style to suit their cool urban taste. The family includes three teenage girls who, along with their parents, were heavily involved in the design process. Kim worked in partnership with the family and local suppliers including builders, furniture/cabinet makers, lighting and AV specialists, and electrical engineers, to ensure that the project ran smoothly and was completely hassle-free for the client.
Turnkey Solutions
Kim explains: “Our project management and interior design role involved the design and re-decoration of every room and installation of everything from wooden flooring, bespoke carpets and soft furnishings. We worked alongside partners on the spatial planning, design and installation of bathrooms, all feature lighting, bespoke cabinetry and cinema room to ensure a perfect finish was achieved throughout. Luxury interior brands used included the Sofa & Chair Company, Roche Bobois, Missoni, Casamance, Porta Romana, Poliform and many others to create the original and completely bespoke finish from top to bottom.”
The house has a very elegant façade and, behind the huge imposing doorway, lies a wealth of truly fabulous period features including panelled entrance hall, stained glass, and arts & crafts strawberry and bird ceiling. It was important that we retained these period features whilst bringing the property up to date, creating a synergy and seamless transition between traditional and contemporary styles.
We achieved this through the carefully crafted design from Kim which introduced fresh and modern spaces, including the glass box garden room that fills the original kitchen with light, maximising both the outside and inside space. Other new rooms introduced include the lower-ground wine cellar, a bar, gym with sauna and steam room, and pool-house leading out to a new urban townhouse garden.
Entertainment at its finest
Kim continues: “The interior of this property has serious ‘wow factor’ but the exterior space is equally impressive. The pool-house incorporating gym and spa area and outside dining/barbecue space allow the family to fully experience what it is to ‘retreat’ home. Along with the cinema room and wine cellar they have everything they need to experience complete luxury living, all under one roof. It was a pleasure to work on this exceptional project and to see our client’s vision for this much-loved home come to life. I embraced the challenge of co-ordinating so many layers of suppliers and holding the family’s hand throughout to achieve amazing results. This property will undoubtedly hold its own unique look, fusing urban living with a very cool contemporary style for many years to come.”
