The owners of this rural family home situated in a sought-after village on the outskirts of Harrogate have lived in the property for 25 years and felt that the whole house needed a revamp to bring it up to date and reflect the way they lived. The house has the benefit of beautiful and extensive gardens which have always been a passion for the owners and now the focus was on the house and creating something individual, contemporary and timeless, with touches of luxury throughout.
Our design team, including both interior designers and architects worked closely with the owners who had clear ideas and a ‘wish list’ of elements to be incorporated into the planning process. They vacated the property over the summer months giving us full access to the property and they trusted us with bringing to life the vision they had for their home.
The renovation included the update of furnishings and decoration throughout the whole of the four-bedroom property, including an impressive master suite. There were a number of rooms to consider and our aim was to maximise the usability of them all so that the family could make full use of every inch of their home. An important person to consider was the family’s student son who returned home in the holidays; having a bedroom and space to suite his interests and age was a key priority.
The owners had already begun update work on some areas of the home including bathrooms and the kitchen but our help was still needed to complete them in a way that created the most of the space and added additional features such as storage.
Whilst a lot of the work required was in the updating of furnishings and decoration we also utilised the skills of our interior architecture team to create a number of bespoke features including a chimney breast in the lounge to create a focal point and introduce a cosy feel to the room
A real showstopper on this project was the design and build of a beautiful concealed dressing room in the master bedroom with panelled wardrobe doors to disguise. Clever use of bespoke cabinetry was used throughout the home in a number of areas to provide storage that blends seamlessly with the features of the property. This included TV and media cabinets in the living room, laundry cupboards on landings and the staircase, new entrance lobby storage bookcases and additional units in the kitchen to maximise the space and functionality.
The project involved both our interior design and architecture team working together to ensure that the design of the home not only looked beautiful but that all of the practical considerations were looked after. Electrical rewiring, new lighting and radiators were also installed to ensure that the design wasn’t let down by dated fixtures and fittings and the home was illuminated and heated efficiently.
Our design team loved working so closely with our client on this project, supporting their ideas and incorporating them into the overall design scheme. Together we created a luxurious yet comfortable and cosy family home with beautiful fabrics from brands including Colefax and Fowler, Zoffany and Mulberry and furnishings throughout that perfectly reflect and compliment modern living in a rural location.
